When Tired Isn't Just Tired: Recognizing Burnout

We all have exhausting weeks. But burnout is different — it's not a bad day, it's a slow erosion that builds until you barely recognize yourself.
Burnout often shows up quietly. You might notice you're more irritable than usual, or that things you used to enjoy now feel like chores. Maybe you're physically drained even after a full night's sleep, or you find yourself going through the motions at work or home without really being present. Some people describe it as feeling numb, disconnected, or like they're running on empty with nothing left to give.
The tricky part is that burnout can creep up so gradually, it's easy to dismiss the signs—until your body or mind forces you to pay attention.
Here's what we want you to know: needing rest isn't a personal failing. Burnout is often a sign that your nervous system has been working overtime for too long without enough support or recovery.
If any of this feels familiar, you don't have to figure it out alone. Therapy can help you understand what's driving your exhaustion and build sustainable ways to recover—not just push through.
